How Rootdossier handles your data: your family's names, dates and places stay in this browser, backups are made in the page, and nothing you type is sent anywhere.
What stays on your device
Every case you make, with the names, dates and places of the people in your line, every document record, cost, date and note, is written to your browser's own IndexedDB storage in a database called rootdossier, under the key rootdossier.cases.v1. Where a browser blocks IndexedDB, the same record goes to local storage instead. There is no server side to this site: it is a set of static files. Nothing you type is transmitted anywhere.
That means your cases belong to one browser on one device. They do not follow you to a phone, they are not backed up by us, and nobody else can read them. Clearing site data for this site removes them permanently. Keep a backup file.
Documents are never stored
The register records where each paper is, not the paper itself. No scan, photo or file of a document is uploaded or kept. A backup or CSV file you import is read inside the page.
Printing
Every output prints through your browser's own print dialog, and saving as PDF is done by your computer. Anyone you hand a printout to sees what is on it.
No accounts
There is no sign up, no sign in, no email capture and no password to lose.
What is collected
No account, no advertising identifiers, and no analytics of what you enter. Standard logs kept by the static host may record the request for a page, its time and a network address, in the ordinary way any web server records a request.
Page counts
The host may count page visits in aggregate. Such a count sets no cookie, cannot follow you to another site, and records that a page was opened, never what you typed.
Purchases
If paid features are offered, purchases are handled by a payment processor, which receives what a checkout needs. An anonymous purchase id is then kept in this browser so your access is recognised. Your cases are never sent to it or to us.
Cookies
Rootdossier sets no cookies of its own and carries no advertising or cross site tracking scripts.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects what is collected, the change will appear on this page.
